  1. What do Australians think when they see the hysteria coming from rightwing wackos in the USA?? Remember when Michelle Obama said she has never been more proud of her country? Well I have never been more embarrassed and sickened, more humiliated and disgusted of segments of our population as I am today. Its been a sad sad time for America and its all in the name of Christianity that we have such hate in our country!

  2. Sue,

We’re two days out from our national election for 2010 so we are focused elsewhere at the moment, but...

Mainstream commercial news coverage of American politics takes a top down view, so people know who Obama, Bush and Clinton are, and what the official policies are... but that’s about it. The rest is oddball stuff.
There's just a vague perception that there are a lot of nutcases running around talking non-stop about guns, oil and religion.

US politics is culturally opaque to most Australians. It's too extreme and over the top for most of us to make sense of.

  4. I just came from Pottersville where Suzan elaborated on what internationals think of Obama and the country. We didn't get an "A" but I had a few issues.

Love the picture, Magpie and, believe it or not, PBS covered your pending election on The Jim Lehrer Show.

  5. tnlib,

I went to that thread and had a look...

I'm devoting a post to thoughts that are related to that subject.
