I am very saddened to read that the TV Angel of my childhood, Farrah Fawcett, has passed away after her long and valorous fight with cancer. The world won't be quite so sunny without her.
(And I've just woken up on this winter Friday morning to hear reports that Michael Jackson has also died. I was never a fan, but I am saddened, and I would imagine this is heartbreaking for his loyal fanbase.)
Rest in peace.

I never had any interest in Michael Jackson, either. About a month and a half ago, I ended up working in preproduction for some film sequences that were to have been a part of his upcoming tour. He turned out to be a smart and really well informed guy, and he was very dedicated to his singing, and people found him to be very easy to work with.
ReplyDeleteNow that he's gone, I guess the least I can do is tell this little story.
It's always sad when a celebrity passes over the threshold between life and death. A person we constantly see on the screen, a person who seems to personify life.
ReplyDeleteBut you know the thing that bothers me the most about all this? There seems to be an obvious absence of despondency for the non-celebrity folks who truly make a difference in our society, those who pass along with little fanfare or notoriety.
How many people remember South African’s apartheid Nelson Mandela, the roots of the Irish Republican Army, Sinn Fein’s Michael Collins, Australia’s Ned Kelly and Peter Lalor. America’s own George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams; Cuba’s Ernesto "Che" Guevara? Etc….
I wonder; how many remember the people who gave their lives, not for notoriety, but for the benefit of mankind? The souls of revolution.
I'm not sure fame is all it's cracked up to be. Immortality might be nice, though. Through recorded images Farrah and Michael will live forever.
