C'mon jump in my car
General Motors in a joint venture with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation have produced a two seater car that drives itself, has no petrochemical emissions and offers wireless communicataion to the passengers while it is in motion. Like a wireless shaver it plugs into a powerpoint overnight.
Range is very limited as yet. Only 40km. But enough for short inner metropolitan commutes.
Could be useful in a future Megalopolis One....

No need to wait for Megalopolis One. My commute is only 8 miles (about 13 km) -- round-trip, and I live in a medium-sized city. And the car looks small enough that I could share a parking space with somebody and split the cost. Why wasn't this done years ago?

ReplyDeleteIt uses GPS is the technical reason that comes to mind, not that it hasn't been around for a while.
But for the bigger reasons... I suspect you already know the answer, Infidel.... special interests and other priorities.
I think they're neat but I"m not sure I'd have the courage to drive them anywhere. Imagine being in a lane between two long-haul trucks.
ReplyDeleteI'm picturing them on roads that are set aside for small sized cars, part of some bigger transport strategy.
ReplyDeleteFINALLY!!!! A car as ugly as me.
