Looking out our back door

This was the view at night from a suburb just to the north of mine when the bushfires were raging last summer, maybe one or two nights after Black Saturday. The Royal Commission into what "what went wrong" continues. Predictions for the coming summer are diabolical.

Spring is in the air now and it feels nice. The days grow longer. The football finals are coming. It's still a number of months away, but the mix of joy and watchful anxiety that is summer nears.

"I love a sunburnt country, A land of sweeping plains, Of ragged mountain ranges, Of drought and flooding rains, I love her far horizons, I love her jewel sea, Her beauty and her terror - The wide brown land for me."

  1. What ever became of the Commission's reviews? Is there really an answer? It seems tht a natural disaster the size of that would be impossible to predict or control.

Hopefully you guys will get some badly needed moisture this winter

  2. It's still ongoing. An interim report is due this month.

The Commission's aim is to assess the strategy with which fires are fought.
